What Is the Best Treatment for a Chipped Tooth?

Dr. Richard Blanchar and the team at Bayview General Medicine in Fort Lauderdale proudly offer laser hair removal for their patients, featuring the Elite iQ® laser hair removal system, a state-of-the-art platform that offers safe, painless, and effective results.

Laser hair removal targets hair follicles to block the growth of unwanted hair. Spring is the time to start a course of treatment, so you’re in low-maintenance mode through the hot beach days of summer.

Today’s blog discusses the best ways to prepare for your treatment and the conditions you should avoid. Consider all these points ahead of your first session.

What to do (and not do) before a laser hair removal session

Consulting with Dr. Blanchar and his staff is the best way to start. It’s important that we know your medical history, aesthetic goals, and certain aspects of your health before starting any hair removal program. Be sure to inform us of a few things before scheduling a laser hair removal session, including:

Ideally, we’ll examine your skin before recommending laser hair removal to ensure your skin will respond well to the procedure.

Other do’s and don’ts include:

Don’t wax or pluck

Laser hair removal needs pigmented hair in follicles to absorb light energy. We recommend shaving treatment areas within 24 hours of your appointment. Waxing and plucking can pull the entire hair from a follicle, but the laser can’t disable the follicle when it’s empty.

Do cleanse and exfoliate

Clean your skin on the day of treatment to remove any trace of deodorants, lotions, or moisturizers so that these products won’t interfere with the laser light source. Mild exfoliation about three days before your appointment is permissible as long as it doesn’t irritate your skin.

Don’t tan

Minimize direct sun exposure for two to six weeks before your hair removal session. Ultraviolet exposure can irritate your skin as well as activate melanin changes.

Since the Elite iQ laser targets melanin in hair follicles, it may also act on melanin in your skin, leading to unwanted side effects. Even self- and spray tans can interfere with laser treatment.

Do wear comfortable, accessible clothing

Easy access to treatment areas speeds up the in-office session, and comfortable, loose-fitting clothing can minimize skin irritation after your session when you may be sensitive in treatment areas.

Do prepare for potential side effects

While laser hair removal with Elite iQ is a low-impact treatment with little downtime, you may still have minor reactions to your treatment. The most common are temporary skin irritation, itchiness, and minor inflammation. These usually subside overnight.

Sometimes, a hair removal session could produce ingrown hairs and small pimples. You may develop uneven skin discoloration if you’ve had recent sun exposure before your appointment. These, too, are usually temporary.
